Skinning can be a difficult skill to master. You’ll need to strictly follow the guide without skipping any of the guide. Skinning is definitely unique in that you do not have to purchases recipes to advance; all you require to skin is a skinning knife and dead animals to skin!

While there is much profit to be made from skinning alone to make up for the effort it requires to level, you can make exponentially more gold by combining the skill with a solid leatherworking effort.  Leatherworkers usually spend a lot of time looking for the leather they need.  By cutting out this time and cost, you are able to make much more of a profit off of the leather you gather.  Like herbalism and alchemy, the two shine together and make a very profitable duo.
Be sure to skin every opportunity that you get, because once you fall behind, there aren’t many artificial ways of buffing up your skinning skill.  There are a few gloves and knifes that offer a couple extra points, but it is up to you to take care of the rest.
Is it worth investing in this skill?
Absolutely, yes.  The money that you can acquire from this skill on its own make it worth the time you will invest into leveling it.  If you choose not to take leatherworking to compliment this skill, than it is recommended that you take another gathering skill as a means to propel yourself into another area of the market.  This will allow you to generate a huge amount of income to your character, and give you the funds needed to outsource any actual crafting you may need done.  With skinning, it is important to be mindful of which skins are in the highest demand, which you will learn in this guide.
Skinning can be a little bit boring, and there are definitely more glorious trade skills, but you can use the skill to generate lots of money. This is the striking difference from other trades. Skinning is, however, a skill that is just as important. The materials you get as a result of skinning can be sold in large quantities, and therefore fetch substantial amounts of money.
