There’s dangerous substances in anti-aging skin care products and makeup.

That’s a scary statement. Unfortunately it’s true. In the USA a number of of skincare treatments, anti aging treatments, makeup, individual and beauty products like soaps, shampoos, deodorants and toothpastes contain harmful chemical ingredients.

Many of those ingredients have not been tested for basic safety on people. Many result from the distillation of crude oil, meaning that they are a petrochemical. A number of these happen to be associated with a variety of health problems. Some are even recognized to trigger cancer.

It might amaze you that in a nation such as ours a massive business such as this puts dangerous chemical ingredients in it’s treatments and puts the health and safety of the citizens of the country in danger. Unfortunately it’s correct.

Lots of the ingredients used in  a number of these treatments like our anti aging skin treatments and a whole lot more are restricted in European countries but are allowed in our products in the us.

The problem is so terrible that there are organisations set up to attempt to battle this proliferation of chemical ingredients in our personal products. Two of the more well known would be the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and Teens Turning Green. Both of these have websites you can find on a quick Google lookup, and each emphasize the possible dangers of using so many of the everyday treatments you probably have inside your bathroom right now.

The issue stems from the truth that our government will not make any real effort to control what goes into these products. The FDA isn’t forced to satisfy itself that the components in most of these products are safe. And big enterprise being what it is if they are able to get away with it they will. These antiaging skin products and others generate many millions of dollars each year.

Organisations like the two I have mentioned are fighting a long uphill battle to try to reverse the dilemma. They are fighting hard.

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics shall launch a 7 minute movie about harmful cosmetics highlighting the problem. They’ve already released a brief teaser video but I expect the long version to be very revealing.

So look for a new movie about harmful makeup and anti aging treatments, and view it through when it is accessible.
