Let’s Play Vinnie Vole’s Existential Nightmare
Posted on June 29, 2010
WARNING: Mature themes and horrible tape-loading sounds! Viewer discretion is advised! By request, it's the Spectrum's premier game simulating a vole's existential existence in an enclosed room. Fun for no whole families! EDIT: When I made this video, I was under the impression that this was a real game. However, this was originally a game that didn't exist which was profiled on Stuart Ashen's wonderfully wry (as most British comedy is) video series "Ashen's Tech Dump." This was only turned into an actual Spectrum tape file after the fake game was profiled on Ashen's show, so if you enjoyed this video (and perhaps even if you didn't), take a look at Mr. Ashen's other fine entertainment: www.youtube.com

@dielan44 Vinnie is short for Vincint which means the character is a male Vole

To all bemused commenters, watch episode 2 of Ashens Tech Dump. (Or, you know, read the damned description.)

YOUR FAULT

@cheeseitjn
Farciful parody, my friend. It is satire. He made it.

no it actually was in 1986, watch ashens tech dump – retro games
June 30th, 2010 - 00:08
what a pathetic game, it depresses me
June 30th, 2010 - 00:27
vinnie vole was a english BBC show in the 1980’s

I used to go to an audio engineering class in the evenings, and they referred to that sound (tape rewind which is similar) as spaghetti
I own an amstrad cpc-6128, they did the same thing.

@LateBlt Schrodinger’s vole/lack of vole you mean
June 30th, 2010 - 01:43
This game was created as a joke by the BBC in the uk for a tv show called Ashens Tech Dump, since then people have made numerous re-makes, but this is the first spectrum disk image i have seen for it, you can get it for windows too.
June 30th, 2010 - 01:53
@ashens Is there any way to turn that into a game or is that totally impossible?
June 30th, 2010 - 02:16
@LateBlt Oh, well what us the point of this game? I don’t know if I am grasping the point…
June 30th, 2010 - 02:31
That’s a matter of opinion. I believe that extending this game would defeat the purpose of THIS game, but you could make a derivative game (a “fan-made sequel”) which borrows ideas from this one.

@dielan44 sorry to overcomment, but where is he, in jail, if he is, why does (s)he have a gun?
June 30th, 2010 - 02:50
@dielan44 BTW I am a programmer, so remaking the game isn’t some fantasy, only I would make it PC compatible only.
June 30th, 2010 - 03:29
@LateBlt Odd, there is very little point to this game, unless I am missing something. How much did this game cost, all you can do it sit there waiting for him to die, or just don’t play at all. Idk, all I know is that maybe I should remake this game so that there is more to do than waiting to die, or would that defeat the purpose?
June 30th, 2010 - 03:37
@ashens Who marks Ashen’s comments as spam? BLASPHEMY!!!
June 30th, 2010 - 04:07
@dielan44 Yes, it’s based on a timer rather than any action on the player’s (partaker’s?) part.
June 30th, 2010 - 04:38
What if you stay at the title screen? What happens then? I honestly want to know if you win then. Because Vinnie wouldn’t die. But isn’t that a different kind of torture? Not being able to move, anchored to one spot, knowing that your death is fast apporaching… like an M. Night Shamaylan movie…
June 30th, 2010 - 05:33
What the… this game is strange, if you were to do nothing and let him sit there, would he still kill himself?
June 30th, 2010 - 06:10
lol sounds like dial up
June 30th, 2010 - 06:50
@ashens Ahhh, you lovable deciever you.
June 30th, 2010 - 07:43
@Jamiesuitor Nope, I made it all up in my head and animated it in Flash. This Spectrum version was written as a further joke.
