Do I love you? For 25 years I’ve washed your clothes, cooked you meals, cleaned your house, given you children, milked your cow, after 25 years why talk about love right now? Do I love him? For 25 years i’ve lived with him, fought with him, starved with him, 25 years my bed is his..if that’s not love what is? I suppose I do.
This song reminds me of my parents. After 27 years they finally got all the kids out of the house and found out they still actually like each other. Just before my brother left they said they looked at each other and said, “Hi, my name is… Nice to see you after 27 years.” I think of that anecdote everytime I run across this song.
Oh, this part just gets to me…1:09 and on. THIS is the way so many of our parents and grandparents got “hitched”. They didn’t even know each other and they were supposed to carry on. In this (and many other) time, “Do you love me?” is THE question. Sad to think that in many other unions, the answer was…????
this is probably the most underated song in the whole musical. not musically advanced, just a plesant feel good song that never fails to put a smile on my face

“Maybe it’s indigestion,”
Couples who’ve been together like this for so many years tend to be funny when they argue about simple things..
