The slow cooker's history is not a long one. Initially, "West Bend Corporation" made the electric bean cooker in the starting of the 1960s. The Bean pot was initially introduced as a cooker. It was basically a crock pot on a tray that heated up. The Slow cookers' first true forerunner was actually the Beaner. For the development of it, the "Naxon Utilities Corporation" was responsible.

Naxon was purchased by Rival Industries that gave them the rights for the Beanery in the year 1970. Rival's exploration into the slow cookers' world had begun. The company found that many types of foods cooked wonderfully with this same method. Once this was discovered 25,000 cookers were brought out and sold to the public as the first official Crock-Pot during 1971.

Another innovation in 1974 came with this product when the inside crock could be removed for cleaning. Also people were encouraged to save energy. Through using the low-wattage Crock-Pot this was easy.

Rival started to show career-oriented women on how to easily fix meals with their slow cooker. Cooking a meal while away at work was appealing to working women and the Rival very much knew it. Other companies jumped aboard creating their versions by the middle of 70s. Though, most of them are no longer exist.

With its slow cooker, Rival stays the leader in the market today. They command a whopping 85 percent of the market. They offer a variety of sizes in many different models. Over the years, these models have proved to be extremely useful.

They come up with timers and automatic controls to help effectively do their cooking. For the cookers of today, a lot of cookbooks have been written chock full of meal recipes.

Today, a lot of new brands of cooker emerge but the Rival Slow Cookers are still the the best known. For larger families, you can look for deluxe large-size models. From beef stew to chuck roast, you can cook everything in them.

They are great for spaghetti sauce, chili, and just about any one-pot meal you can come with. In some homes, the slow cooker is used everyday due to busy lifestyle of everyone these days.

From 16-ounce size through 7.4 quart is its range..4-quart size. This is the crock's dimensions. For cooking, these have different heat settings on low or high and some have a warming setting. In heating food, the low setting is having a temperature of 170 degrees and from 190 through 200 degrees Fahrenheit is its high setting.

A certain amount of liquid is also needed to cook food correctly. This amount varies depending on what you are cooking. With the manual, you can follow the operating and cookbook's instructions..

Another innovation that has happened with slow cookers is that of the rice cooker. The Special rice cookers are basically an offshoot of original slow cookers. Having this very convenient cooking tools, the history continues.
