The Difference Between Waxing and Sugaring
Written by admin on July 9th, 2009Waxing and Sugaring are closely related methods of hair removal. Both of these hair removal methods have been used for centuries by both men and women to remove unwanted hair. Sugaring is an ancient hair removal method going back thousands of years in the Middle East.
Sugaring
The sugaring process involves making a so called wax from a combination of sugar, water, and lemon juice and then using this mixture to remove unwanted hair. The sugaring ingredients and equipment are cheap, environmentally friendly and universally available which is an advantage for those looking for a homemade formula. Because of the similarities to regular waxing the sugaring method is often referred to as sugar waxing, although as indicated above it does not include wax.
Sugar wax sticks strongly to hair however it does not stick to the skin as strongly as normal wax. Women who have tested both methods at the same time report that the sugaring method is the less painful of the two. People with sensitive skin tend to favor this method as it’s more gentle on the skin than waxing.
If you make a mess while sugaring you simply clean it up with a cloth soaked in warm water. Any leftovers can be eate, saved for reuse, or safely disposed of! It is really only a type of sugared candy.
Waxing
The waxing process uses a warm wax mixture which is then applied to the hair to be removed. Hair removal wax is usually available from various retail stores for about twenty to thirty dollars. It can also be purchased as a kit with accessories and instructions.
The method of applying the wax and then removing unwanted hair is identical to sugaring. The warm wax tends to stick to to skin as well as hair so the removal process is more painful and temporarily leaves red marks and bumps.
Because wax is not water soluble it is harder to clean off some surfaces.
Both Methods
The actual hair removal process is similar with both methods leading to similar results. When the hair regrows there is less of it and it is softer and silkier. You can avoid problems like cuts, scrapes, and ingrown hair caused through shaving.
Waxing and sugaring are both methods that lend themselves to being done at home by an individual, but if you don’t want to do it yourself there are retail businesses who provide this service.
