Skin needling - the benefits
Written by admin on May 5th, 2009Collagen Induction Therapy is a procedure which often involves a trip to the doctors. However, micro-needling is a form of collagen induction therapy which can be conducted in your own home by yourself, in your own time; this reduces wrinkles, improves acne scarring and reduces the appearence of stretchmarks.
A common factor in the development of scars, wrinkles, stretch marks and uneven skin is a lack of collagen. Micro-needling stimulates collagen production in the skin, which helps to reduce and possible eliminate them, this can only be achieved if skin needling is carried out frequently to keep the skin healing until it has healed to an acceptable level.
Skin needling (microneedling) is a process carried out using a roller that is covered with numerous tiny needles. These needles penetrate the outside layer of skin and carefully separate the pores of the skin. This method has 2 major advantages; it effectively stimulates collagen generation at the same time as providing a clear channel for topical gels and creams to be absorbed more effectively through the outside layer (epidermis) of skin. Skin needling (micro-needling) creates a very minor trauma which only lasts for about one hour and doesn’t cause the skin any real harm such as bleeding in the treated area in the way that laser therapy or microdermabrasion do.
The microscopic punctures (which are often just the opening of the pores of your skin) caused by the skin micro-needling, stimulate collagen production in the dermis layer (the second layer of skin) and it creates the right environment for collagen and elastin formation. These key factors help the skin to cosmetically heal.
There are lots of alternatives to skin needling, and a lot of these require visits to a specialist. These include laser therapy and Micro-Dermabrasion. Using a Micro needling roller at home is generally much cheaper.
