How to Use a Derma Roller

Dermaroller are available in several needle lengths to reduce different skin problems, so it is best to purchase the needle size which will be most effective on the condition or body part you are trying to treat.

Derma Roller Needle sizes are available for home use: 0.5mm, 1mm (1.0mm), 1.5mm and for professional use: 2mm (2.0mm) and 2.5mm there are a few longer derma roller sizes only to be used with numbing cream. A few companies also sell 3 line rollers (with just three lines of needles to heal areas such as around the eyes) in 1.0mm and 1.5mm sizes.

Which needle length for stretch marks?

It is best to use 1.0mm derma roller for light stretch marks and 1.5mm for deep stretch marks, however it is up to your personnal choice as the 1.5mm can be quite daunting.

The best needle size for acne scars or other facial scars?

The 0.5mm is best for light acne scarring, mild chicken pox scars or ice pick scars, or simply regular anti ageing treatments as it is gentler on the delicate facial skin.  A 1.0mm roller is more suitable for deeper acne scarring, surgery scars, ice pick or chicken pox scars, and 1.5mm Derma Roller are for very deep scars.   A Dermaroller 1.5mm is the longest length recommended to use on the face (except when carried out by a proffesional), but your facial area has a higher sensitivity to treatments then the rest of your body , so it is best to go for a smaller needle rather than a big one.

You may also wish to choose the 3 line roller as it is better suitedbetter suited to use on certain sections of your face (such as around the eyes), but it is not a necessity as the normal roller may suit you best for all round usage.

What size of Dermaroller for hair loss?

For thinning hair or greying hair, the 0.5mm Derma RollerDermaroller is fine, with 1mm rollers best suited for more extensive hair loss.

What about for Cellulite?

The best needle size for cellulite is 1mm or 1.5mm depending on how severe the case is.

Is the right Derma-Roller needle length the only factor?

No.  You should also use use a vitamin rich treatment cream, as it will enhance the use of the Dermaroller, and it can speed up results by helping your skin to to produce new collagen and elastin – the materials that give your skin its elasticity and smooth texture.

What about sterilizing the Derma Roller?

To sterilize the Dermaroller, it is best to use the same products used to sterilize baby’s bottles (sterilization liquid or sterilizing fluid) available from your local pharmacy or supermarket.
