Care For Your Sensitive Skin

While sensitive skin care is nothing new, the number of people that seem to be suffering is on the increase. The normal explanation is where our skin reacts unfavorably to external stimuli which could be the atmosphere, sunlight, clothing, products that we sue on our bodies causing redness and irritation. Special sensitive skin care products have been designed that will not irritate the skin and can help where the skin is already experiencing problems.

There are a variety of sensitive skin care products available owing to the fact that not everyone that has hyper-sensitive skin has the same problem. Generally, all skin types respond negatively to detergents and other chemical based products.

But the damage starts generally beyond a defined threshold or tolerance level. Obviously the tolerance level for those individuals with sensitive skin is much lower which means that skin damage might be more rapid and noticeable.

The difference with sensitive skin care to ordinary skin care products is the concentration of known irritants is kept to an absolute minimum or eliminated from the product completely. Sensitive skin care products of any type are usually marked as such but if you have very specific concerns then check the side of the container or list of instructions to see if there is anything you should know about.

Just to be sure, when you choose the products you require just buy the ones with the least number of additives and preservatives available. Wherever possible, avoid any type of cleanser or toner as they are almost invariably alcohol based.

When you are doing the washing, it is advisable to wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from the effects of the detergents and if rubber causes you problems then it is possible to wear cotton gloves beneath the rubber ones. A further problem is often caused buy the sun, so use special sunscreen if you intend to spend time in the sun.

This type of precaution is also relevant even if it isn’t sunny as the atmospheric pollution found almost everywhere now will also aggravate the skin and a suitable barrier cream or hypoallergenic moisturizer should help protect vulnerable skin. Use soap-free and alcohol free cleansers and cleanse your face whenever you return from spending time out doors but do not scrub or exfoliate too hard as it can cause reddishness and even inflammation.

For women that wear makeup, it is recommended that it not be worn for too long and that once again only hypoallergenic skin care products are used. So as you can see there is much more to consider when looking after sensitive skin, and it is more about being careful with your skin both in terms of sensitive skin care psroducts and protection against environments affects on skin.
