What are the Causes of Acne?
Posted by admin on November 30th, 2009 filed in GeneralAt some time in their life, most people have suffered from acne. This skin affliction, though its common, has negative connotations attached to it that cause self-esteem issues among some. The causes of this affliction have caused many miconceptions.
Hormones Lead To Outbreaks
Extra hormones in the body is something that is often linked to acne. For women, this can mean that outbreaks are more severe during one point in the menstrual cycle than during others. Acne outbreaks often happen to boys and girls during puberty because the body produces extra hormones at this time. Since stress stimulates the adrenal glands to produce more hormones, acne can occur when someone is really stressed out.
Is Personal Hygiene A Cause?
The appearance of acne on the face often includes blackheads. Because of how this looks, many erroneously believe this is the result of poor personal hygiene or have a dirty face. The black spots are usually made up of a skin and hair cell substance composed of keratin. The black spots often show because a persons pores are being blocked by unshed skin cells. This is common and really reflects a symptom and not a cause.
Bacteria
Pores that are clogged by bacteria is the ultimate cause of ance. The bacteria cause an inflammation which is usually reddened skin or pimples. The whiteheads that often form from these pimples come from your bodys immune response, with that white fluid consisting mostly of white blood cells. A whitehead on a pimple is a sign that your body is working to destroy the bacteria.
Food As A Contributor
Currently, the jury is still out as to how much or how little food contributes to outbreaks of acne. While old-fashioned suggestions for preventing outbreaks includes cutting out things such as chocolate and fried foods, studies have not proved that easing up on consuming either definitely helps. The hormones in milk however, may be a reason why it can cause acne. There have also been studies that indicate that cultures that have fewere people eat refined sugar have fewer cases of acne. However, since acne outbreaks can also be determined by genetics, this is not absolutly clear. Now that you have this information, you will be better prepared to determine what can and can’t cause acne outbreaks.
